Healing after dental implant surgery is an important part of achieving a healthy, confident smile. At Sunnyvale Implant Center, we guide every patient through the post-surgery process to ensure a smooth, comfortable recovery.
The First 24 Hours
After surgery, mild bleeding and swelling are normal. Bite gently on gauze pads, avoid strenuous activity, and rest as much as possible. Follow all medication and care instructions provided by your dentist.
Days 2–7: Early Healing
During the first week, you may experience mild discomfort. Use ice packs to reduce swelling and eat soft foods such as yogurt, mashed potatoes, and smoothies. Keep your mouth clean by gently rinsing with salt water and avoid touching the surgical area.
Weeks 2–4: Tissue Recovery
By this point, you’ll notice decreased swelling and increased comfort. Continue following your soft diet and maintain good oral hygiene. Avoid crunchy or sticky foods that can interfere with healing.
Months 3–6: Osseointegration Phase
This is when the implant fuses with your jawbone — a process called osseointegration. It’s crucial to attend follow-up appointments to monitor healing and ensure proper integration.
Long-Term Maintenance
Once your permanent crown is attached, caring for your implants is just like caring for natural teeth: brush twice daily, floss regularly, and visit your dentist for professional cleanings.
